Note: This article is about using Barilliance Retention to send web push messages to past visitors. If you want to send web push messages to site abandonment visitors (triggered messaging) please check this:

Setting up web push retention messages

Step 1 - Web push permission request rule

Using Web push requires that visitors allow sending them web push notifications. More information in the section "Setting up permission request' here: https://support.barilliance.com/en/articles/4150091-web-push-notifications

Step 2 - define the segment to target

If you want to target web push users

Step 3- Create customers engagement rule

Create an engage visitors rule (in retention->campaigns) and select Web push as the engagement channel.

Once the web push channel is selected you will see the interface below as part of the engagement rule:

You can define the title, body url and which product to show in the message. And select which product will be shown in the message. The options are 'Viewed, Cart or Purchased.
Note that if no matching product is found the message will not be sent.
In addition you can define tracking and send the notifications manually (more on this below).

Selecting the segment to target

The engagement rule segment section controls which retention segment is targeted by the rule.

Select the segment to target and restriction on sending a message from this rule or any rule more than once in X days.

Sending a test message

To test a message by sending it to yourself please follow this:

1. Make sure you give permission to send you messages by visiting a page with active 'web push permission request' rule and allowing sending you messages (this is required only once).

2. You can copy the user id by visiting the Browser debugging console and writing cbar_uid. copy the number there and paste it in the 'Testing' section and click 'Send Test Notification' . A message will be sent to you with a random product.

3. For more in depth testing - Create a segment containing only your user.
The simplest way is to use email contains filter with your email address. Then send a message only to this segment.

If the message did not come through here are the main possible reasons:
1. Data is synced to retention platform only once in 12 hours or so. If you've entered the email address used for the segment recently wait and do the test the next day.
2. Notification is not sent if the visitor is active. So only test after the visitor did not visit the site for 30 minutes or more.
3. Notifications are blocked from sending if the user has received any notification/email from this rule or other rule (including triggered messaging rules, not just retention rules). Per the settings in the web push and the rule segment sections.

4. No relevant product was found.
