This article explains the difference between the different email recommendations types supported by Barilliance recommendation engine.

Email personalization widgets are required to show the most relevant products that match the content of the email. For example for a general newsletter we would like each user to see products that match their funnel state and interests while in a post purchase email you would like to show direct cross sell items that match the recent purchase. In a different scenario you would like to send the newest products of a specific brand to the brand fans.

In order to support the different use cases, Barilliance offers a set of recommendation types to choose from. Here is a list of the different types and their meaning.

This is the default recommendation type. Using it is recommended in most standard use cases
Runs through the user history and looks at purchased, viewed and cart items to decide what are the best recommended products for the user. the recommendations are cached for 24 hours from the email open time so when the user will get the next weekly email they will see new recommendations but if they open the email again in the same day they will see the same recommendations.

Barilliance can add attributes to products based on the product feed such as color, brand, (year - for wines) etc... Recommended items based on product attributes allows creating custom widgets for example of 'Red Nike Shoes'. The algorithm will give precedence to best sellers or items close to the visitor interests.

Top Sellers for you

Shows the most relevant Top sellers site wide based on the visitor information.

Purchased items

Shows the items the user has purchased in their last purchase.

Shopping cart items

Shows the items the user has left in the shopping cart, if any.

Viewed items

Shows the last visited products for this user.

Hand Picked Items

Allows showing specific products in the widgets. These products are selected using the product selector in step 4 of the widget setup.

New items/ Sale items/ Best Selling items/ Price drop items/ Custom items

Selecting these will filter the products and show only products marked as new/sale etc... These product features are usually taken from the site's product feed and require that Barilliance will perform setup work to capture them. It is not recommended to use these since Barilliance support the custom product attributes which is more flexible. See Recommended items based on product attributes
